Elegant food in a relaxed formal setting
Just inside the Shoreditch Town Hall, founders Daniel Willis, Johnny Smith and Chef Isaac McHale’s casual refined restaurant is fabulous – featuring a set menu with interesting and often overlooked British ingredients served direct from the open-plan kitchen giving you a perfect view of the kitchen team at work.
The menu changes often with the seasons. During my last visit I loved the buttermilk fried chicken nuggets with pine salt, oyster-smoked-charcoal-cream-beef gelatin (a revelation), a red meat widget bird blood sausage pancake rolled up like a taco and eaten with my hands, followed by an 108-year old Madeira on a silver tray with a decanter full of hot pheasant bouillon served together in a wine glass.
When I told Alain Ducasse (a huge Madeira fan) that I would be making this sassy concoction the next time I get the flu – he took a photo of my Instagram page and sent it to his assistant to put on the future visit list. Speaking of lists, The Clove Club was just voted #26 on The World’s 50 Best Restaurants 2017.
Solo diners will appreciate the bar top dining.
